new website, new blog, new year!
Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday and I hope everyone reading this is safe, happy, and well.
If you are here, thank you for taking the time to investigate this website and to read my blog. I really appreciate your time. There is a vulnerability involved with putting yourself out there like this and historically it has been a challenge for me, to show myself authentically, to peel back the layers and show people the inner working of my thoughts and heart. I have been scared to put myself out there (imposter syndrome, anyone?)
But then I thought, why not?
I heard Rashi Shetty say once that no matter what you do in your life, one third of the people will be behind you, no matter what. They are your cheerleaders. The second third will always be rooting against you, no matter how hard you may try to win their approval. You will never when with these types of people. The last third of the people in your life are ambivalent, and don’t really think about you very much, either way.
Bottom line is, you will never be able to please everyone, so step back, take a breath, and decide to please yourself. And that is what I decided to do.
Mary Oliver’s beautiful poem The Journey touches on this theme a little bit. While it isn't explicitly about the New Year, its themes of self-discovery and moving forward in the face of challenges really resonated with me, and seemed perfect as a way to set my intention for the new year.
One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting their bad advice—
though the whole house began to tremble
and you felt the old tug at your ankles.
Oliver’s words inspire us to embrace the path ahead, trust our instincts, and take the first steps toward something new, no matter the obstacles. Cheers to us.
Love, Kara
